DAVID I. TAYLOR trained in theatre design at London University and the University of Massachusetts.  He works as a theatre designer and writer, based in Litchfield County, Connecticut.  David was lighting director for the huge Bollywood musical I Believe - A Shiamak Davar Spectacular at the National Theatre in Mumbai, India.  Recent lighting designs include a new production of Lucia di Lammermoor for Lyric Opera of Kansas City, a wild new production of The Lady's not for Burning for San Jose Repertory Theatre and the London premiere of The Mai at the Tricycle Theatre in London.  In New York David designed the new musical Shabbatai and the New York premiere of The Workroom for American Jewish Theatre.  Other notable productions include the honored Macbeth lit by fire and flame for Nicolas Kent, the premiere production of Walpurgis Night at the Gate Theatre, London and the much acclaimed production of Gamblers, designed by Oleg Sheintsis at the Tricycle Theatre, London.  Other recent work includes a London production of Chicago, Le Nozze di Figaro at Stowe, Sir Thomas More at the Shaw Theatre, a new production of Nick Ward's The Strangeness of Others in London, and a tour of the song and dance show Sleep with Friends with Wayne Sleep. Most recently, he designed lights for the premiere of Dreyfus in London, the acclaimed double bill Wine in the Wilderness and Water, and a new production of Little Shop of Horrors in New York. 

David is Associate Principal at Arup, the world's leading design engineering firm where he is Leader of the Performing Arts Sector for the Americas.  Previously, David was one of the owners of Theatre Projects Consultants, a theatre consulting firm and was consultant for new homes of the Philadelphia Orchestra and Seattle Symphony as well as the new permanent venue for the Academy Awards. He is working with Michael Tilson Thomas to reinvent the way orchestras work together around the world, creating a new venue for orchestral internet broadcast in Miami.  David is an accomplished musician who plays and writes for a variety of instruments, and records both live and in his project studio.  He is a director of the Kings Theatre Company in New York,  Vice President of the Entertainment Services and Technology Association, ESTA the trade body for production equipment and services, is a professional member of the USITT and is a lifetime Fellow of the ALD,

 As a writer he has been published in a number of languages and has written features and articles for newspapers in Britain, Europe and North America.  He was a Contributing Editor for Theatre Crafts International (now Entertainment Design).  His books “Using Colour” and “Choosing Colour” are used in curricula on both sides of the Atlantic and his words are to be found in the teaching materials for 50,000 avid student Shakespeare-goers in Chicago and the new CD-Rom guides from Chicago Shakespeare Theatre.  He has a two-book commission with Entertainment Technology Press to be published in 2009.

David lives in Litchfield County, Connecticut with his wife and two sons.  He is honored to be a Savilian.
